Hi,
i install sabayon linux 3.4 on my system. There is Kernel 2.6.22-sabayon.
I make a "2.6.23-gentoo" kernel based on the sabayon kernel configuration file with genkernel.
kernel-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.22-gentoo-r8 = 4352 KB
kernel-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.23-gentoo = 4419 KB (my kernel)
This is okay but my initramfs is very small:
initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.22-sabayon = 4092 KB
initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.23-gentoo = 1321 KB
I use the same configuration as the sabayon kernel. Why is my initramfs only 1321 KB and the sabayon initramfs about 4 MB?
Here are the kernel configurations:
http://www.win-professional.com/kernelconfig/2.6.22-sabayon.txt (Sabayon Kernel)
http://www.win-professional.com/kernelconfig/2.6.23-gentoo.txt (my Kernel based on the Sabayon Kernel Config)
Any ideas? _________________ Gruß

Does it...matter? It takes up as much space as it needs to hold driver modules. If everything is working fine, and your kernel is configured the way you like, then it shouldn't matter what the difference in size is. You should be happy that it's smaller. |
