I was wondering, for those who are in the US, what are the best mirrors in the US with respect to reliability and download speed? Being in Arkansas, I've been trying to find one close by with a good connection and speed. I've tried the one in North Texas, the one in Georgia and a couple of other places local to Arkansas, but the closest mirror I can find that's reliable with good download speed is University of Florida.
It seems like the best mirrors are always in Europe. Has anyone experienced some good mirrors in the US? _________________ Greg |

trigggl,
emerge mirror-select and use it to speed test the gentoo mirrors (all of them) and build a list for you.
It will download a 100kB from every mirror and put your fastest ones in make.conf.
You get to choose how many are in the list _________________ Regards,

The annoying thing is that I got a good download speed from Georgia Tech when I tested it, but now it doesn't seem to want to connect at all. Reliability is something measured over time. I was just hoping there was someone here with the experience to know one or two that don't have a habit of going down or slowing down.
I do appreciate the advice, though and will give it a shot at my next opportunity. That will be about the same time I remove Georgia from my mirror list. _________________ Greg |
