For those who don't know, lesspipe.sh (generally found in /usr/bin and pointed to by $LESSOPEN) is a less preprocessor.
If you've ever wondered why less-ing a .tgz shows a file listing and not binary garbage, lesspipe.sh is the reason. Take a peek if you haven't before, it's pretty straightforward.
Anyway, if you take a peak inside lesspipe.sh you'll notice at least one glaring ommission:
.jar file handling, which can be treated EXACTLY the same way .zip files are. I'm pretty sure Java is at the stage where the .jar file extension has been carved in stone. A really really hard stone. .rpm handling is in there. Are there more Java users or rpm users?
So whadda ya say? Shall we throw .jar handling into lesspipe.sh? Can we make it "official"?
And while we're at it, is there anything else that should REALLY be in there? _________________ RUN! |
