Hello, i have file server, 3ghz amd64 1gb ram 3x300gb ide drive on hardware raid5 and when copy large files to it from work station laod gets very high 8 +
Is this normal or there a way to reduce the load?
Also any tips on speeding nfs up as well.

How much i/o are we talking here?
Also, are you sure it's hardware raid? |

Copy 20gb which is mixture of large (4gb) files and smaller ones, few mb to few hundred mb.
Yes it is hardware raid, it is 3ware addon card 7xxx series. _________________ Work Station - 64bit
