If you install Firebird, be sure to install the Flash Click to Play extention.

That thing is so sweet it makes me want to cry!!!!

Basically the equivalent of pop-up blocking for stupid Flash ads! Makes browsing some sites, like Yahoo groups, MUCH more bearable.

I just timed 6 seconds for Firebird to start up and 8 for Mozilla.

Konqueror comes in at a blistering 2-3 seconds. And Opera is about 2 seconds or less.

The question was asked "In what case is Firebird faster than regular mozilla."

In my case it comes down to load. When my machine is under serious load {%75-90%} Firebird is able to properly function and shows little sign of strain. Mozilla gets VERY crunchy. I run some fairly intensive background deamons to support my work infastructure, so I have to live with hi-load conditions.

Also, in regards to Konqueror and Opera... They are speedy, no doubt. But often their standards support is poor. Also, in Konqueror, if you don't want to run your machine with a lot of KDE bloat {DAMN that program is getting chunkie...} then it is mostly worthless. Put them under load, and I can literarly brew a 6 cup pot of coffee in the time it takes for Konqueor to spit out the Cisco site.

I guess my take on this is that Firebird is best used for me 'cause I don't wanna run KDE or Gnome. I like fluxbox and E. Cause of that I tend to stay away from things like Konqueror {the IE of the Linux world...}

It's OK. I like the adblock plugin better. Once you've got the ad sites plugged into that you don't even see a placeholder for the flash ads.

I finally emerged Mozilla Firebird just now. Very impressive! I like the looks of this browser a lot better than the old Mozilla. Looks very similar to Epiphany (which is what I use by default). Dang, now I'm torn between browsers again :?

Unfortunately, I can't make much of a judgement of the user-interface speed. Since I recently upgraded my computer from a 300MHz Celeron to a 2.53GHz P-IV, even Mozilla seems very speedy and highly responsive to me! But I can tell that Firebird takes approximately half the time to load up than Mozilla. I also like the smoother scrolling in Firebird. (or is this in Mozilla 1.4b as well?)

from my experience mozillafirebird is much faster than mozilla. for me mozilla takes about 10sec to load and it "feels" sluggish when i browse but with firebird it just "feels" faster for some reason. also loads in 5secs. i love phoenix thou only i couldnt get AA working so i changed to galoen but then firebird came out i had to use it:D its just phoenix but better some how.
also if you use mozilla mail you will want to keep mozilla but i use mutt so all that isnt need for me. also try out ephipany*sp* the replacement to galeon *i think* very impressive, kinda buggy so far thou

They get installed in ~/phoenix/default/XXXXXXX.XXX/chrome/.

I haven't tested it, but deleting the file should probably remove the extension completely.

i have switched remember forms off in the privacy options and cleared form history but it still does it, :-( help, i wanna say "lol" again.
