Works here... do you have the latest firmware 4.44.1.18?

no, actually not - only the .17-version
but that it because the portage-package for iwl4965 requires that one
(forces downgrade)
with the latest .18.1 I get the error:

Quote:

iwl4965: Could not read microcode: -2

is it properly named?
Newest iwlwifi requires /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode

mmh, I'm getting a little bit confused by those iwl4965-ucode packages
first, iwlwifi forced 4.44.17
when I made an emerge -auDNv world, I was told, that 4.44.1.18 ist newer and should be updated
but an update to 4.44.1.18 didn't work (as I told you in a previous post)
now, it seems to me like portage regards 4.44.17 as the newer version
that confuses me so much - I mean, which one is really newer?
and why is the one version 4.44.1..18 and the other one just 4.44.17?

maybe someone could explain this (couldn't find something in bugzilla)

tnx,
nowhereman

EDIT:
I noticed that version 4.44.1.18 works (in kamikaze3 not 4), after I made a symlink
from /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode to /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965.ucode

Code:
Linux localhost 2.6.23-kamikaze4 #2 PREEMPT Wed Oct 24 20:23:47 CEST 2007 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Works here... but...
All I can say it causes my firefox freezing and sound skipping like hell :(
I've noticed that going from 2.6.22 to 2.6.23 made my system less responsive...
I had some bug in 2.6.22 (cfs) line (including kamikaze-sources) that forced me to switch to 2.6.23:

I am having performance issues when I have my cpu pegged. Specifically, I get lousy response from X and firefox when I have boinc/setiathome running. I figure it's a scheduler issue with the .23 kamikaze kernels... searching revealed that there are (or were) "completely fair scheduler tunables" on 23-kamikaze2, but I can't find those when I do 'make menuconfig'. Are they there, and I'm just blind, or do I have to turn something on to be able to / for them?

The tunables patch was dropped in kamikaze3 and kamikaze4 but it'll be available in kamikaze5.

could you post your `lspci`?

I've also experienced troubles with sound on my Toshiba Satellite, it has very specific hardware and it's not fully supported by alsa project for now, but there are some trick which helped me.

These awesome updates make my iwl4965 so unreliable when connecting to any AP with at least WPA enabled that i can _not_ recommend them. It just makes trouble..

I've also experienced troubles with sound on my Toshiba Satellite, it has very specific hardware and it's not fully supported by alsa project for now, but there are some trick which helped me.

gaelic_cargal,

try add this line to your /etc/modules.d/alsa:
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-digout

If this don't helps try "model=3stack" or "model=auto". There are some other options which I don't know much, just google for them.
And don't forget
Code:

~# modules-update
~# /etc/init.d/alsasound restart

to load you changes.

one more thing, do you have ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel" in your /etc/make.conf? Your sound card sould be supported by hda-intel driver in >=alsa-driver-1.0.14_rc1, I'm pretty sure this kernel has higher version of alsa.

waninkoko, could you please add the patch from that kernel bug-report to your next release ?
it would speed up boot-up for me at least 35 seconds

thanks in advance

Hi.

Waninkoko, you're doing a great job here. Thanks a lot.
Bringing ck and cfs together is what many people would have loved to
see during times when Con was present in the scene.

I used ck patches and switched now to yours. cfs alone never gave me that audio performance I was looking for.
I tried to trace the issues down with the help of Ingo -- but it never worked out.
I always had a problem that the cfs patch gave me slightly fuzzy sound on my high-quality audio setup.

You brought the - to me very important - 10000Hz option back, which is improving the sound heavily.
I need to disable dynticks though - as it seems. I also disable IRQ balancing. It seems that most of the
dynamic control mechanisms ( there are also some bad options for USB) are kind of obviously impacting
the soundquality.

What's IMO missing is the RR_Interval parameter which I successfuly used under CK.
I am wondering if this param is back again with the tunables patch you'll introduce with K5.
I also tweaked a Parameter called SCHED_GRANULARITY with cfs. It's no longer
activated as it seems!?!? How can I get access to this parameter?

One more - very specfic issue: I gotta a Thinkpad T60P. SInce 2.6.23.1 I don't get access to /proc/acpi/ibm/fan any longer.
Bash is giving me write errors. Is this problem known to anybody? What am I doing wog here?

THX
