i have the same problem, could you try glxinfo, i have dri as su but not as user. can you confirm that?
then it must be some rightsproblem? |
as user i've got direct rendering: Yes
That's what I do to get it:
rmmod fglrx
modprobe fglrx
eselect opengl set ati
i've then edit my Xorg.conf and I've add this
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection
under Section "Device" i've just add
Option "DRI" "true"
(I haven't it under my Xorg.conf and xgl has alway work) |

oh yeah... ati-drivers is blocked in xorg-server-1.4, just edit the xorg-server ebuild and remove the line where is says !ati-drivers |
Hm strange didn't seem to work for me, any ideas? |

Anyone has that problem too?
Code: | glxinfo
glxinfo: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
|
I just did:
Code: |
ln -siv /usr/lib/libGL.so /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
»/usr/lib/libGL.so.1« -> »/usr/lib/libGL.so«
|
But I don't think thats a nice solution. _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

That seems to be place where ATI unofficial drivers are having ATI logo. Did you remeber to update /etc/ati/signature file (etc-update or dispatch-conf)? |
I just installed using the non-distribution-specific installer so no config files to update. /etc/ati/signature does have one long line of colon-partioned characters, though. _________________ --name="Zach" |

I notice nobody in this topic is having the problem I have; that is, enabling XComposite causes massive screen corruption. Enabling XComposite allows me to run Compiz, but just like the last three releases, even though ATI says that compositing works, it doesn't. The screen stops updating, except for the Konsole I launched Compiz from. Admittedly, it IS wobbly... and then X crashes.
Edit: Oh, yeah. Anybody having problems resolving libGL.so.1, you probably renamed your 8.42 ebuild from the 8.40 release. You should check to see where libGL.so is symlinked, and then symlink /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 to that libGL.so.1. For example, for me, it's /usr/lib/opengl/ati/lib/libGL.so.1. |

I have ugly menu borders on kde windows. See here:

Anyone knows how to fix that? I disabled the kde menu effects, but that didn't help. _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

Yes disabling the shadow helps! So this is a bug in the driver or what? _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

I'm still having the watermark issue. Anyone has an idea?
Furthermore could anyone fix the slow scrolling or is this a bug in the driver? _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

Damn it. CF worked on xorg-server 1.3
I unmasked
Quote: | >=x11-libs/libXrender-0.9.4
>=x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r1
>=x11-proto/renderproto-0.9.3
|
and did a world update. Rebooted.
Now I'm using xorg-server 1.4 and I get
Quote: | * Detected Session: gnome
* Searching for installed applications...
* No GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap with direct rendering context
... nor with indirect rendering, this isn't going to work!
* Using the GTK Interface
* Starting Compiz
... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering
compiz (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
|
when running fusion-icon...
So I'm masking it again for the time being...
Anyone using 1.4-2 AND Compiz Fusion AND ati-drivers-8.42.3?? _________________ OS: Linux 2.6.26 i686 Gentoo v2.0.0 Sound: HDA Intel

poor you. I'm more or less happy with it. But I'm sure the free driver will become great soon. At least for some series of ati cards. _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

Yes I am, but with the following regressions:
-videos are flickering
-scrolling is slow, not unusably but slow
-shadows become just white borders in menu, disabling helps, or using emerald (I'm using kde-window-decorator)
But at least standby and hibernate is working. _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

Ok, maybe the driver is far from perfect but at least we can see that ATI guys started catching up with Nvidia. Hopefully 8.43 will fix even more bugs. The glass is half-full to me.
Cheers,

Did anybody make it work with AIGLX+Compiz/Fusion/Beryl+DualHead?
It works for me with the single monitor configuration, but no luck with the dualhead.

I downgraded to xorg-server 1.3 after getting the GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap error messages with xorg-server 1.4, but unfortunately I'm still having the same problem occur after re-emerging the programs (the plugins for compiz-fusion and the emerald decorator) that were giving me problems before I discovered this one to be my tough cookie to crumble.
Code: | oddfox@cacodemon:~$ fusion-icon &
[1] 9471
oddfox@cacodemon:~$ * Detected Session: kde
* Searching for installed applications...
* No GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap with direct rendering context
... present with indirect rendering, exporting: LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1
* Using the GTK Interface
* Starting Compiz
... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering
compiz (core) - Error: no 'core' plugin with ABI version '20070928' loaded
compiz (ccp) - Error: InitObject failed
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't activate plugin 'ccp'
|
I'm going to keep trying for as long as I can tonight to figure out what I can do to resolve this problem and I'll post as soon as I've discovered something worth mentioning.
EDIT: I was being an r-tard, I needed to re-emerge x11-libs/libcompizconfig-9999 and everything is working splendidly now. Time to test out the new features of this driver aside from the AIGLX support.
EDIT MARK II: Well everything was working beautifully until I restarted Compiz Fusion, and now I get a screen that doesn't update except for occasional window decorations and a noticably wobbly window indicating the terminal I was working with (I can move the blank "window" around with ALT-click). This allows me to type "killall -9 compiz" and "kwin --replace &" but for the life of me I cannot get Compiz Fusion running. I'll try tomorrow after work because I simply don't have the time anymore tonight. _________________ Now the rainy season reminds me of Maria

ok guys / girls:
here a list of hints from the phoronix forums which I haven't tested yet - I first need to set up my laptop / update it
Quote: | You need to enable Option "TexturedVideo" "True" for X-Video
compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "on"
Option "IgnoreABI" "on"
EndSection
LIBGL_FGLRX="/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so.1.2"
Option "UseFastTLS" "2" (for wine)
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libGL.so libGL.so.1
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "on"
EndSection
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "1"
EndSection
Driver "fglrx"
