Anyone try OxygenOffice yet? I'm just installing it on my winbox at work, but it's supposedly an enhanced version of OpenOffice.org. Binaries for windows and some sort of linux package (.tar.gz makes me think of the days of Slackware) and source, of course, are available on SourceForge here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=170021
Couldn't find anything on bugzilla, gentoo wiki or these forums discussing it, so thought I'd start a thread.
I'm going to play around with the .tar.gz file on my gentoo box at home sometime in the near future. I'm sure getting the source to compile is not a trivial task, but separate ebuilds for binary and source versions would be really neat. Having discussed the OpenOffice.org ebuild (and suggesting it was broken up, so different ebuilds for Writer, Calc, etc. which has been consistently shot down by the package maintainers) I realize this is a huge and particularly difficult package to work with. If anyone has had some luck with it, notes could be helpful. _________________ Carlton Stedman

Have they actually patched the source code at all?
It looks to me like it simply adds a lot of extra content, and as such could be made avialable as a separate package (also they way the call it OxygenOffice Professional irks me a little). _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

Yeah, I haven't really played around with it much yet -- it may end up just being a bunch of new content. They claim some sort of "performance" benefits and offer full source, making me think the code is patched with some sort of "improvement" besides just adding content, which may not actually be the case.
I agree, the "Professional" part is a bit silly. _________________ Carlton Stedman

Just took a closer look, and apparently all the add-on content can be installed separately, so that might be well worth an ebuild.
I haven't seen any mention of performance improvements though (but if they managed to do something like strip out all the java stuff with no loss in functionality, that in itself would be worth a full ebuild). _________________ "You have to invite me in" |
