Our college's wireless internet weird. We have to log into it and all pings are blocked.
When I have my samba share running on my lappy, I would like to be able to connect to it from my virtualbox windows env.
But I can't. At home I can type in a path of \\myip\Data and it works fine. But they've somehow blocked that at school.
I tried localhost and 127.0.0.1 and my ip to no avail. What options do I have to try to "reach" my samba share but never go out of my machine network wise? _________________ Never Forget The Expat 2.0! |

When you are logged in, how does the Windows guest communicate with the Linux host? Is the guest assigned an IP address on the main network, or a private IP managed by the virtual machine software? Is logging in to the university network sufficient to fix the problem? Specifically, do you change anything on your computer as part of logging in, such as firewall rules? What is the output of /sbin/ip addr ; /sbin/ip route ; /sbin/ip link on the Linux host, both before and after logging in? What is the output of ipconfig /all on the Windows guest?
/sbin/ip is part of the sys-apps/iproute2 package. |
