Amarok (xine engine, alsa output) sounds great, while mpg123 (and xmms, audacious, mp3blaster, mplayer & similar programs that use mp3lib from mpg123) doesn't sound as expected - low frequency sound (bass) is more like a noise than a sound :(
No matter which equalizer is set, it still sounds crappy...

Code:
[I] media-sound/mpg123
     Available versions:  0.59s-r11 0.65 (~)0.67 {3dnow 3dnowext alsa altivec esd jack mmx nas oss portaudio sdl sse}
     Installed versions:  0.67(16:50:07 09/27/07)(3dnow 3dnowext alsa -altivec esd jack mmx nas oss -portaudio sdl sse)
     Homepage:            http://www.mpg123.de
     Description:         Real Time mp3 player

tried to emerge ~0.67, no change in sound quality compared to 0.65

any idea?

Same problem here, only with mpg123. All works fine with mplayer, xmms, vlc...

Audacious uses libmad, not mpg123.

The problem is still present. Not only in audacious, but in every app mentioned in the 1st post (xmms, audacious, mp3blaster, mplayer...)

Any idea?
