I have been using the linux version of avg and when i personally initiate a scan it finishes clean, but when it runs from cron it comes back as 1 virus found. The log file is too long to look through and trying to view the logs from within avggui locks avg altogether so I thought I'd give clamav a go. I emerged it fine, but when i do:

or even restart
I get this:

ERROR: Can't open /var/log/clamav/clamd.log in append mode (check permissions!).
ERROR: Problem with internal logger. Please check the permissions on the /var/log/clamav/clamd.log file.
* Failed to start clamd [ !! ]
* Starting freshclam ...
ERROR: Can't open /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log in append mode (check permissions!).
ERROR: Problem with internal logger (UpdateLogFile = /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log).
* Failed to start freshclam

I checked the log files and they appear to have the correct permissions. I even made new files and changed the .conf files to point to them and clamav changes the permission to clamav as the owner with rw permissions and root as the group with r permissions and everyone else forbidden. Can someone tell me what I'm missing here ?? TIA |

You could check your /var/log/clamav directory. One of mine
