How long would you estimate this would take on a celeron 1.2ghz? i started it about 5pm yesterday, maybe a little sooner, and it's STILL going... like almost 24hrs later. is that normal or is this machine just a lot weaker than it should be?

My brother has a 1Ghz celeron with 320Mb of memory and it takes well over 30hours to compile kde. Especially compiling kdelibs and kdebase last very long. If you have other linux machines distcc will be your friend.

In my AMD Athlon XP 1800++ with 512 MB RAM (333MHz) it took almost 12 hours (1 night and a half).

Unfortunately KDE takes a Loong time to compile even on fast machines. The reward is worth it though. I am a big kde fan. My AMD XP 2000+ took 13 hours. The one thing with Gentoo is it takes a long time to install everything, but the end result is better than any distro I've seen. You basically create your own distro in a sense and you actually have control....
