ok, i managed to get vmware under 2.5.70-mm6. For a while i was trying to use usermode linux to run an older kernel, but that unfortunately doesn't support the cpuid instruction which is required.
emerge vmware-workstation-4.0.4460
get http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/vmware-any-any-update33.tar.gz
untar it
run runme.pl
it will patch the source for the modules, then you'll be golden _________________ YEAH!!!!! -- Lil Jon |

The link above doesn't exist anymore but if you go to the ./vmware/ directory you can find a patch that is more recent than that. The patch version there as of Saturday July 12th applies and worked 100% for me on a dual amd system running 2.5.75. This is a good link that shouldn't be forgotten!
