I want to change procesor from duron 1200 to athlon xp 2000+
I have flags set to -athlon, does my gentoo will start ?? if not what I should do?

Your system should start up just fine. A duron is just a low end athlon, and the XPs are just high end athlons, so your CFLAGS shouldn't have done anything to affect your system.

while not actually true, they will work on the same setup because they use the same instruction set.

unlike intel, the duron is not a castrated athlon (like intel's celeron chip) the duron is a completely different little monster

The Durons above 1 GHz have SSE like every Athlon XP. Only the cache is damn small. The Morgan is a Palomino with a crippled 2nd Level cache. So even a dual Duron would be possible.
