I just tried to run the install of Diable 1 under wine... Wow! It *totally* crashed my computer. I was unable to kill X or to drop into a console. Had to push the reset button, I think it's the first time that happens to me under Linux. |

A few forum posts say that the wine 3.1 worked with Diablo I, but I cannot confirm it at the moment... I'll have to wait til I get back home and try it then.
(EDIT) WineX - pardon the error _________________ Smells like Barbeque |

With WineX 3.2, it can be played in windowed mode, but for some odd reason, when I full-screen it, I can't use my keyboard. _________________ -Zedd |

I had it working under plain old wine, full screen too. The installer went fine, it only takes 3 seconds anyway, and the game played fine, but the menus weren't there. Luckily, i've been playing the game for waaaayyy too long and knew what the menus were. Strangely enough, ingame worked perfectly. |

What should be the optimal parameters to launch Diablo in windowed mode, under Wine? |

old thread, but it'll help others w/ the same problem. that problem is solved when you run winex in "managed" mode.
from the winex config file under the [x11drv] section
Code: |
; Allow the window manager to manage created windows
"Managed" = "Y"
|
and voila, the keyboard works while playing diablo in fullscreen _________________ unite |

anyone ever try to play multiplayer? You have to change the command.txt, and that should work...anyone else ever get multiplayer working on IPX or any other setting compiled IPX in kernel to see if it would change anything but didn't...I would really like for this game to run in Wine x 3.3.21.
Later,

Has anybody got Diablo 1 working yet? Mine runs but just keeps asking for the CD. I have tried it using the CD and using an ISO file. Same thing. |

Only by making use of a nocd patch.
It didn't get me much further though. It plays the intro movies and then sits at a black screen playing their music. If i press enter i get the sound of a new menu appearing, but still a black screen. Hit esc enough times and you're out of the game. |

I have spent the last couple of hours trying to find a nocd patch for it but have had no luck.

I have one simple request. To make diablo run. I tried it in latest cedega and it started and ran nice. Next time i started it i was unable to load my caracter. I just created a new one. I tried to install it in vmware and there were no bugs like that but is ran kinda slow and the sound was choppy. What else can I try. Does win4lin have direct draw support. _________________ Professor: "Good news, everyone. Several years ago I tried to log onto AOL, and
