Having recently upgraded one of my computers I thought I'd have a bit of a play with an x86_64 install.
I've installed x86 Gentoo many times and can do it without the doco, but I can't seem to find doco which specifies the extra steps needed for a 64-bit install
(i.e. a stage3 install, not a recompilation of the toolchain etc..).

There's quite a few posts on here recommending changes to make.conf etc and procedures for recompiling, but each of these end up failing partway through due to them not being able to find the 64-bit complier etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct procedure for a clean 64-bit install?

Thanks.

I don't have an AMD CPU....

edit: in /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux there appears to be a profile for amd64, but not one for an x86_64..

x86_64 is also known as amd64 (sad but true). It doesnt matter if you have Intel or AMD cpu.

When it comes to installation it isn't any different from x86 tbh.
