one thing i notice about mouse cursors, especially on a mac but also redhat and some extent windows, is that the cursor seems to move so much for smoothly and fluidly. any trick to getting this to work? i recently bought a logitech mx500 usb mouse and the performance is kinda choppy. it also accelerates much faster than my old ps2. maybe its cause im using a 1600x1200 lcd? i duno.. |

In the kernel configuration, under the input core section, there is an option for the screen resolution used by the mouse driver. If that's not set to the same resolution as your actual screen it might not work as smoothly as possible.
Edit: This actually has nothing to do with the mouse, look lower for a correction.

Try looking here. The options you probably want to look at are SampleRate and Resolution. (and in case it's not obvious from looking at the page, that is information for your XF86Config.)

Correction:
Quote: |
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_X:
If you're using a digitizer, or a graphic tablet, and want to use
it as a mouse then the mousedev driver needs to know the X window
screen resolution you are using to correctly scale the data. If
you're not using a digitizer, this value is ignored.
|
So if you're using a mouse don't go mucking in your kernel config.
And in addition to echeslack's link you can try and put this in your mouse section in your XF86Config:
Code: | Option "SilkenMouse" "1" |

Well what do you know, it looks like I misunderstood the purpose of that setting. Thanks. I've added a note to my previous post. |

Samplerate and resolution dont do anything for my MX500, tested in xev, maybe you should tweak your mouse acc + threshold using `xset m`, I always have threshold at 1 so theres no acceleration effect
eg: xset m 5 1
you can have fractions for the speed too
eg: xset m 3/2 1 |
