I have a multi-card (Memory Stick, SD, etc.) card reader that I'm having a hard time getting to work.
I followed this, but dmesg isn't really telling me what I need to know.

Code:

usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 1-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 7
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access     USB2.0   CardReader CF RW 0.0> PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sdb
sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0
usb-storage: device scan complete

Okay, so I've got a device at /dev/sdb
That's about all I can figure out. There is no /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2 etc, so not sure how I'm supposed to mount that.

Here's the output from lsusb
Code:

Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 07cc:0300 Carry Computer Eng., Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 045e:0053 Microsoft Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 095d:0005 Polycom, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 001 Device 007: ID 07cc:0300 Carry Computer Eng., Co., Ltd <-- That's the card reader

Any help would be appreciated

This is how I configure my fstab for my multi-card reader.

Code:

/dev/sde1               /mnt/sm-kort    auto            noauto,users,exec               $
/dev/sdf1               /mnt/ms-kort    auto            noauto,users,exec               $
/dev/sdc1               /mnt/sd-kort    auto            noauto,users,exec               $
/dev/sdd1               /mnt/cf-kort    auto            noauto,users,exec               $

But I don't have any device like that... that's the issue.
I have... sdb... and that's about it.

Does your kernel support multiple LUNs?

I've got
* Device Drivers->SCSCI device support

That should cover it, no?

This falls under devices like usb sticks. At least I have that enabled in my kernel.

Well, I've enabled just about everything I can think of in the kernel, still to no avail. It works fine on my other (worse) linux box which I'm trying desperately to decommission. Basically the machine knows there's a USB device there, but has no clue what to do with it.

EDIT: Now, I guess I've gone back a step.
Plugging the device in, I no longer have /dev/sdb
dmesg only shows this:
Code:

usb 1-2: USB disconnect, address 8
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9
usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Partially solved.
I wasn't booting the right kernel. I now haev /dev/sdb1 when my Compact Flash card is in the multi-card reader, but it doesn't pick up SD cards. They work on other machines though. :/

I have a very similar problem. I had the "classic" Gentoo/Gentoo Wiki USB mass storage setup, enabling a simple plug-and-play of the USB device, it appears on my KDE tray under media, drop and drag files, and so on. I haven't used my Gentoo box for a few weeks, but do remember upgrading udev a the time ...

Now, none of my USB sticks or drives are automounted. I no longer have any sdX under /dev.

I have Gentoo Sources 2.6.22-r8.

My issue was solved. The "scan multiple LUNs" option under SCSI devices in the kernel was the last kernel.
I think you have a different issue... I never got any type of errors.
