I seem to get all the problems no one knows how to fix...

I can't get any compiz decorators to run. As per my other thread, Beryl worked fine. Now I figured out how to start compiz, which is too dumb to use AIGLX on it's own so it needs compiz-start. Great. I can run compiz-start all day, and I get the ability to make windows transparent with alt + scroll but nothing else. No decorations, no cube, nothing. Compiz is working though, judging by the fact that alt-scroll works.

I have all those silly lines in my xorg.conf (all of which are "not used" by the open radeon driver). I'm running a radeon 9200 on a standard centrino laptop. Window Decoration is enabled, and the decorator runs if I start it manually or with compiz-start, it just does nothing. This is compiz 6.2 from the normal portage tree.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have searched far and wide, and everyone else's problem was caused by something else, with the exception of a fellow radeon sufferer, er user.

Couldn't they have just merged compiz into Beryl instead :D ?

You may need ccsm to actually change the configuration. The fact that fading windows works, shows that compiz-fusion is working. You may want to delete the configuration directory in your ~ directory. Try running ccsm and changing your settings.

Are you using 16 bpp color depth? I had the very same problem compiz worked but emerald didn't start or give any error. I use 24 bpp since then.

last time that I had this problem it turned out that I just needed to add "emerald --replace" to the start script

my compiz-fusion start script:
Code:

compiz --replace ccp --sm-disable &
emerald --replace

Fixed- I needed LBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT="1", because compiz can't figure out how to render on it's own I guess. copiz-start still won't work (no decorations), but this does, so I'll call it [solved].
