|
|
Hi,
Since installing gentoo I have had this message during boot:
Code: | rc-scripts: Please do not use it with baselayout-1
rc-scripts: The device-mapper init script is written for baselayout-2 |
It doesn't seem to cause any problems, but I would like to get rid of it.
What is this baselayout? I see on portage that baselayout-2 is hard masked. So how do I get rid of this warning?
Mons

I have been trying to find out what baselayout is actually for without much luck. Couldn't find any descriptions of the ting while googling.... |

Base layout is version 1 so that's not the problem. It's the device mapper script.
Lets see what init scripts you have loded:

Here's that one:
Code: |

sys-apps/sysvinit
selected: 2.86-r8
protected: none
omitted: none
>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
>>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed. |

Thanks. I'll get back to you tomorrow with the result.
I am playing around with the boot splash and a new kernel as well at the moment. So that will compile over night. Now bed time here. |

Hi,
No result, the message is still there as before. I think there must be something with the device-mapper script itself. I have tried to re-emerge the device-mapper and lvm2, but no change.
I wonder if there is a different way of starting the device-mapper that will take it out of these scripts all together. Any ideas?

This seems to have been changed in device-mapper-1.02.22-r2 to support baselayout-2 when it is released, see upgrade notes here: http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20070806-newsletter.xml . If everything is working fine, I would just ignore it. If you don't want to see the message every time you boot you can stop the script from running with rc-update -d device-mapper, but remember to re add it if you upgrade to baselayout-2. |

Thanks for all the help to understand this stuff.
They have reached RC6 now so hopefully baselayout 2 will be out shortly. I think I'll wait for that. Hence I'm setting solved on this thread.
