truetype fonts in vncserver

I want to use truetype fonts in vncserver. I tried editing /usr/bin/vncserver and using
$cmd .= " -fp /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/,/usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/truetype/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/,/usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/misc/";
(The same font path I have in my XF86Config, which works fine).
but it doesn't work, vncserver won't even start. I tried with and without the trailing slash on each directory.

Just using the default /usr/bin/vncserver, and using 'fluxbox -antialias', all the fonts show up as boxes.

How do I get this to work?
