What's the "right" way to use zen source under gentoo ?
Unmask 9999 and ebuild digest it or ? |

using 2.6.24-rc4-zen1 boot fails at mounting /dev for udev. I get:
Code: |
The "mount" command failed with error:
wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on udev,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so |
Upon doing the dmesg | tail, all i get is:

His patch there fixed it. Doesn't Preemptible RCU speed things up?
Also, EARLY_PRINTK and CONFIG_TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT are greyed out in xconfig, and when I manually change them to n, xconfig changes them back to y...There are some options that don't even have checkboxes...and plenty of other greyed out things, too.
----
As for timer interrupts, what works best?
I have a quad core user, tons of dual core users, and tons of single core users. Most modern machines capable of tickless interrupts will use those over the static value, correct? As for those who use the static value, what is best? I have always heard 864hz total was best, so dual cores have 432hz, etc...
Also, it would be nice if we could get the performancing options listed in an easy to read list with the optimum settings as well for desktops and laptops...Do you use default scheduler, or low latency?
Anyway, I want to know what the optimum settings are for speed/power/stability balanced...I'd like to hear from users of single, dual, and quad core users, both x64 and x86 based. _________________ Make The Fonts Pretty In KDE

I just had exactly the same problem - don't know how it happens but I just used online git, http://repo.or.cz/w/linux-2.6/ - downloaded ec.c - http://repo.or.cz/w/linux-2.6/zen-sources.git?a=tree;f=drivers/acpi;h=d11bc993e6384fa5d59ad88c48eefe65b2e427cb;hb=acpi and here we are - success!

OK...I figured out the problem. I kept preemptible RCU enabled, and used that little tweak that Muty-bg found. That doesn't work with the current nVidia drivers, but the beta drivers do work. I do have one issue (I think it's just with the current release, though) that is either making the refresh rate really weird when I drop to console, or just a general rendering bug. Whatever the case, the gui works fine, it is only the pure console that does not.
Get the drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/betadrivers.aspx?lang=en-us
As for ATI, I haven't the foggiest if they have a beta release for Linux, and if they do, I can't test it. _________________ Make The Fonts Pretty In KDE

Here it boots, but soft-locks up about 2 Minutes after boot finished. Mouse is hard to move, even typing won't work fluidly, shutdown takes about 5 minutes.

@Waninkoko
Hi, I have a problem that I cannot fix.
I've used 2.6.24-rc3-zen3 without problems as a kernel for a small Linux distro (spblinux) on a memorystick. Then I have switched to 2.6.24-rc4-zen1 and get a problem (/proc/bus/usb is mounted but later umount does not work though /proc/bus/usb exists).
I have updated 2.6.24-rc3-zen3 to 2.6.24-rc4-zen1 by
cd /usr/src/zen-sources
git pull
Now I need to get back to 2.6.24-rc3-zen3. Sorry, I do not know how to do. Can you help?
