Howto add the "custom-kernels" overlay:
To add the "custom-kernels" overlay, you need to install and configure "layman":

And then add the "custom-kernels" overlay:

* QUICK GIT HOWTO:

"zen-sources" git repository will be downloaded to your hard disk and ready to be compiled.

I do not like the name zen. The name suggests to my mind a state of alien peace. Where as kamikaze suggests to me a willingness to plunge ahead regardless of any consequences.
Zen suggests to my mind an unwillingness to change if the current situtation is: if ain't broke don't fix it. That unfaithful saying is contrary to the spirit of this statement: "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard."
Furthermore if I had a girl and a boy I would name the girl Zen and the boy Kamikazee. |

waiting for release. | Maybe I should rename the old shadow sources to this? Actually, fairy sources sounds either like it's a magical kernel source that works in mysterious ways, or that it's gay which even then it will work while cleaning your computer, but still work in mysterious ways.
I will switch to Zen Sources now I guess. So, the Zen sources will always be the latest version from the kernel git, so that means 2.6.24 dev branch for now, right?
Since Git is suppose to allow versioning, is there a way for the Zen sources git be a clone of the kernel git with patches applied to say the stable and dev line? Then a person just needs to check out the version they want? |

About the "releases" and "ebuids".....
You could theoretically pull from the git repo at any time. I personally believe the git repo should be considered "stable" at anyone time. If you update from our git server regularly then it should be easier for you to identify problems (use 'git bisect' to track down the specific commit). However, I realize some of you want some sort of "tried and tested" indicator so after large numbers of commits or major changes we can update the tags and kernel name/version.
There are lots of ways we can provide ebuilds....
1)an ebuild based on patchs relative to official vanilla releases
2)an ebuild based on patches relative to official daily git snapshots but not based on zen tags
3)an ebuild based on patches relative to official daily git snapshots but based on zen tags
4)a live ebuild which pulls from git directly - HEAD
5)a live ebuild which pulls from git directly - tag
OR
you could just clone the repo an pull when you want to update

I like the idea of ebuilds pulling in from a tag so that it is known to be working purely. The head has the feel of something that is just committed and untested. |
