Can't log into gnome

I've just installed gnome.
Now I'm trying to login but this doesn't work.

I've got a normal user account but this is without a homedirectory and with root I also can't login.

Hopefully someone can help me.

Any error messages? What about login type... are you using GDM, or just trying to log in at a console screen?

When logging in a console screen it's works fine
