When I try to emerge programs in Gentoo, it stalls for about 2 minutes when it says "resolving... [server name]" Then the files proceed to download at a fast pace and there are no other problems with emerging. However, this becomes a big problem when emerging something like X or KDE because even with a tiny file, I have to wait two minutes just to begin the download. Multiply that by tons of tiny files, and it becomes a problem. This error seems to occur no matter what mirror I am downloading from. Is there anything that I could possibly do to fix this? Thanks.

Check your current dns servers listed in /etc/resolv.conf, make sure they are working properly. You can also add additional dns servers to check in this file.

Well, I did end up fixing the problem. I had set my dns server as my router, which I had worked for me in the past. After switching it to the actual adresses, everything seemed to start working fine. However, I don't really understand why my old set-up didn't work properly. Shouldn't the router just forward the requests to the actual dns server?
