I have a portable mp3 player that has some files whose names are encoded in iso-8859-8. I'm pretty sure it's the right encoding, since this is the encoding I had to pick on the player's menu in order to view the files correctly on the player display. However, I've been struggling to get kde to recognize the same directory.
I used this guide for help, but instead of getting utf8 to work, i tried using iso8859-8, so far without success.
I can now create a folder in Hebrew anywhere on the system, just not on my player... I get a "could not make folder <name>" error message.
One other thing I noticed was where the Hebrew directory used to be, now exists a folder (name is in gibberish) that's locked out. I can't even access it.
The player still recognizes it, and plays files from it, but my system is unable to read it.

BTW, my kde is still configured to use the en_US locale, which is what I want. All i do want is the option to be able to create hebrew file name, and the ability to read such files from other locations.
edit: I had to make sure this really wasn't a problem with the permissions. so I changed LANG back to en_US. Now i'm back to square one, where I can access the directory but here's how it looks:
