|
|
I emerged netplug from a tip in /etc/conf.d/net (pretty much to the end) with the hope that my eth0 i/f would handled nicely, no matter if the ethernet cable is connected or not. The tip explains that netplug is just to emrge and no other configurations are neccessary.
Unfortunately, with netplug installed, my boot process fails when kde is initiated. An error message comes up: "DNS temporarily out of service" (or a similar wording).
Unfortunately there is no man page for netplug and not much info on the forums. Is there anything more required when netplug is installed, e.g. coldplug?
Another question: is netplug superfluous if the right config options are chosen in /etc/conf.d/net (i.e. can I make the system behave nicely, i.e. start without problems, eventhought the ethernet cable is disconnected)? _________________ /Phil |

I've never used netplug but ifplugd works well for me on my laptop. _________________ Be lucky,

philip, what's in your /etc/hosts file? Did you put your machine name next to localhost? |

My /etc/hosts looks like this:
Code: | phils_pc philip # cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost phils_pc
# IPV6 versions of localhost and co
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
phils_pc philip # |
Yes, machine name is next to localhost, with a few spaces in between. _________________ /Phil |

I'd remove the extra spaces. Only have one space between localhost and phils_pc.
The only other thing you can do is prevent udev from starting the scripts and start them manually. Go to /etc/conf.d/rc and put '!net.*' in the RC_PLUG_SERVICES line. |
