Well i finally want to switch from winxp to linux. The reason being is that openoffice happily opens all of my officexp documents.
Ways to achieve a migration:
1)Copy to cd (act as backup) - (but the question is will linux read from a cd that is created in winxp, i don't know what kind of filesystem will be created on the cd) *my favorite way
2)Make small fat32 partition and copy all my docs to that and then copy them to linux
Thanks in advance. _________________ Socialism: It is taking over!

Linux can read NTFS just fine. Just compile read support into the kernel and away you go. BTW, all CDs use the same filesysystem. Actually, that's a bit of a generalization because there is a difference between data CDs and Audio CDs, but generally, you should never need to worry about incompatablility with CDs. In any case, you shouldn't need a CD anway, since you can mount your NTFS partition readonly. |

Thanks, that's good news. The reason why i want to copy my documents to a cd is becuase it is time for a backup anyway. I don't want my ntfs winxp partition anymore. Good ridence to winxp. I don't play games that much anymore so i really have no need for windows. My only pastime is programming in c++ so i am all set. _________________ Socialism: It is taking over! |

Yes, except that CDs created in Windows have MS's Joliet extensions in addition to the ISO 9660 filesystem. Luckily you can compile Joliet support into the kernel as well. |

Leave it to windows to fuck-up the International Standards Everything would have been perfectly standardized without the Joliet exentions. |

It's not just Microsoft. It's Apple too. |
