if you have to press the Alt Gr key to get the tilde (as ppl with german keyboards do)
setxkbmap en_US
and press the upper-left key, this is the tilde on US keyboards (the one below the esc key) |

You can run game in windowed mode. Edit nwn.ini in your nwn dir.

you misunderstand.... in windows when you launc nwn, it pop ups a dialog where you can choose Play, Tools, Update, DM.... in linux you jump direct to the game, without the availibilty of the DM side... how can i turn that on?

You run the ./dmclient instead of ./nwn.
