Hello together,

I just discovered, that changing my keyboard layout makes a lot sense. I changed to the "emacs" layout which gentoo provides and I love it.
Just one problem: Sometimes (also not very often) I need Umlaute (I am german) like ä,ö,ü. Now I thought: Hey, I need them very seldom, just put them on some keys I do not need otherwise. I discovered, that I never use numpad 1-3.
Now I am looking through the emacs.map.gz ... I am confused.
Can somebody give me some tips on how to map:
ä <-> numpad 1
ö <-> numpad 2
ü <-> numpad 3

Thanks!
nathan

The xev utility may help you figure out the codes that go with your keys.
See another post,

for more on using this and on remapping things in general.
