after running "emerge --sync", "emerge portage" and then "etc-update" (-5), now I can not boot into KDE desktop, just a cursor sticks on the top-left corner of a blank screen. I reboot it again and press F2, I find it stop at the "localhost login:", I can connect to internet and run emerge --sync without problem, the only problem is no KDE desktop, how can I solve this problem?
Thanks for any reply! |

Is that the only thing you've done? Strange...
If you have xdm in the default runlevel I'd recommand to remove it. Then reboot and use the console, login as root, try "startx" and see what happens.
While you are at emerging things you could update your whole system to have it consistent:
Code: |
#emerge --sync
#emerge -uDNav world
#dipsatch-conf or etc-update (if needed)
#emerge --depclean
#revdep-rebuild
#reboot
