Using old version of xfree, instead of latest

Just finished bootstrapping gentoo on a VIA eden ITX system (really small and quiet!) However, in order to use the tv out functions, I need to use a binary linked against xfree 4.0.2 (though 4.0.3 is reported to work). I'm doing an emerge of 4.0.3, but how do I fix it so that 4.2.0 won't get emerged on top of it?
