I've been trying to get an irc client going on my gentoo laptop. However, no matter which irc client I've tried (BitchX, KVIrc, xchat so far), I have consistently been greeted with a message saying "Socket error: connection refused" I've read some about what could lead to this error, and installed an identd daemon, but still can't get irc going.
What other things should I be trying? |

are u sure that u are connecting to an actual server? check how u spelled the server. also make sure ur online.

I am online, and I am sure of teh spelling of teh server.
Although, I guess I am not so sure of my ability to spell in posts -- see above sentence. 
I am actually trying to connect to #gentoo at freenode.net. |
