binary blob free drivers for ipw3945 wireless

I have a laptop with intel ipw3945 wireless device

I know that the 'official' drivers have binary blob that forces me to obey FCC standards

I ask therefore whether there is a driver for my device which does not contain ANY blob

I'd like to have an option o manually control transmission power (especially manual owerpower and underpower) but this is less important

Is there ?

Short answer: no.

No drivers without binary blob - none that I know of, at least. The blob is just the regulatory daemon and that seems to be there so nobody can wreak havok with hamradio and wifi. So you're not allowed to manually adjust core details of your card's transmission functions for legal reasons. At least not with Intel.

That said, you sure can still do that. With some hexediting, reverse engeneering and a lot of time on your hands. Probably not what you want.

Matter is : I have a strict 'no binary' policy on my computer. Therefore I search for a driver that I can use

Now, If the driver does not enforce me to obey FCC rules (and where I live there are no such FCC-like regulations that can be broken with a wireless netcard), I want to actually be able to tx at higher power

There's the iwlwifi driver. It uses a closed firmware, just like the ipw2100 and ipw2200 drivers, but the kernel part open and no userspace blobs are necessary (again, just like ipw2100 and ipw2200).
