Okay, so I have a Linux client and two windows clients on my network.
The two windows clients can see my samba client and shares just fine. However the samba client can't access either of the windows clients unless I specify the IP address for the windows host. This can get hairy seeing as all three clients connect to each other and the internet via a simple home router (Linksys DIR655) and are assigned IPs by it via DHCP.
If I issue the command
smbclient -L //servername -U username
I get:
Connection to servername failed (Error NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME)
I can ping both windows comps from my Linux comp with no problems
any ideas? _________________ Computer Specs: ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe (nForce4) | AMD Athlon X2 3800 @ 2.0ghz | 2x1.0GB OCZ Platinum DDR400 RAM (128-bit DDR mode) | GeForce 7600 w/ 256mb VRAM | Onboard Sound - for now |

I think you have to setup your dns server (probably the one on the router) to resolve the names of your Windows computers and the server. The Linux computer tries to resolve //servername using dns not netbios names. |
