|
I decided that I want to use the open source radeon drivers, so I do an
emerge -C ati-drivers and followed the instructions in the wiki: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_DRI_with_ATi_Open-Source_Drivers
But without the success i want.
I didn't see anything wrong in xorg.0.log, for me everything looks good except the output of glxinfo: Code: | name of display: :0.0

My be I should have done 'eselect opengl set xorg-x11' before I unmerged ati-drivers...
I also executed emerge -uDN world and revdep-rebuild, but still no direct rendering.
Can someone help what i can do now? Did I miss something? |

Are you using xf86-video-ati from portage? Do you have VIDEO_CARDS="ati radeon" in your make.conf before recompiling xorg-server? Have you added the 'Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection' in your xorg.conf? And it seems like AIGLX is having problem, maybe you can try adding 'Option "AIGLX" "off"' under ServerFlags?
P.S. Btw, emerge -uDN world without reviewing the packages first can be problematic. _________________ "There will be more joy in heaven over the tear-bathed face of a repentant sinner than over the white robes of a hundred just men." (LM, 114) |

Thank you for the answer. Just in the moment i want to downgrade Xorg-server and emerge ati-drivers again.
SnEptUne wrote: | Are you using xf86-video-ati from portage? |
I tried with xf86-video-ati and with the build in radeon drivers, both with the same result.
SnEptUne wrote: | Do you have VIDEO_CARDS="ati radeon" in your make.conf before recompiling xorg-server? |
Not exactly:
VIDEO_CARDS="radeon vesa"
Should I add "ati"?
SnEptUne wrote: | Have you added the 'Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection' in your xorg.conf? | Yes. I wrote it uppercase and then lowercase.

I changed it with no luck, still no direct rendering.

"radeon vesa" should be fine.
How about updating the option in device section? If RenderAccel wouldn't activate, it should give error messages in Xorg log.
Code: |
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "ati"
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
EndSection
|
What version of mesa are you using? Was it compiled with video_cards_radeon? And have you added dri to your use flag for xorg-server and xf86-video-ati? _________________ "There will be more joy in heaven over the tear-bathed face of a repentant sinner than over the white robes of a hundred just men." Thank you for your suggestion.
But nothing solved the problem for me. So i thought that some files from the fglrx aren't removed.
I executed : Code: | LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo | And got the error:
"undefined symbol: _glapi_get_dispatch"
I deleted all libGL - files which aren't owned by any package, additional i unmerge x11-misc/googleearth and deleted the googleearth directory manually.
In make.conf I changed the USE-Flag "-svga".
After that I run revdep-rebuild, followed by a reboot: Now Direct Rendering is working! |

Might seem a dumb question but I am having the same problem.
I wanted to have a better graphics-performance as I was not even able to play the game spring or scorched3D even though Direct Rendering was working! So I started investigating.
I tried the closed-source drivers -> no Direct rendering.
So I decided to switch back to the open source-drivers from xorg, using exactly the same config for my kernel and reemgerged the drivers and so.
But now direct rendering did not work at all!!!!
WHY TF.
Now the dumb question:
How did you find the LibGL files to delete? A simple find-command followed by an equery belongs command?
Thx in advance

Hi,
I had the same Problem with switching from fglrx to opensource radeon-drivers.
Now after a closer look at ok's xorg.conf it seems that his problem is different though. I had a problem loading the r300_dri.so.
Anyway; thanks to your post and the suggestions SnEptUne made I spotted the problem with the mesa library. I needed to reemerge with the use-flag "readeon".
cheers Christian |
