honeymak,

The GWN and Gentoo Releases have a lot of team members in common.
As they are volunteers, I guess (I have not asked) efforts gave been diverted away from the GWN towords other things.

Yeah, sewiously. It has been almost three months since the most recent post. Put something up there, even if be an explanation of why we're not putting something up there. It looks bad.

I have filed a bugreport here. You can subscribe to receive updates or add your own comments.

Quote:
Suggestion: place new packages and/or glsa information on the frontpage

Currently imo the website gives the impression of an inactive project. We could
'fix' this by placing news such as glsa's and or package information on the
frontpage. This will show to the outside world how active Gentoo really is :)

I think sabayon's website is a good example (thought I dont Like the layout and colour).

    Community activity

    Headlines

In our case "community activity" could be "New unanswerd posts" and/or "Threads with most activities"

"Headlines" could take it's content from "News & Announcements"

Then there could be a forum with "Tips&Tricks" where devs/mods/admins could paste the Tips&Tricks section from the GWN and those headlines are shown on the frontpage too.

Latest additions to the portage/sunrise tree would fit as well.

But thre month of inactivity is a shame for all of use.

regards

I would like to ask why?
Is there any specific reason that the official gentoo site is NOT updated since the 15th of October?
This thing makes me worry.....
I tried to find someone to explain it, in forums and news sites, but still I have no answer....
Please, if someone knows more about it , share the facts with us....

thank you in advance,
timaios

merged above post here.

No GWN's have been published lately, so no site updates.

I like both those ideas: better layout and sub-modules for content so user can choose which bits are interesting on the homepage (it's only a cookie ;) but I'd really like a "Top 10 Breakages" chart as well. It could be voted on by users in the forums (anyone over 50 posts and 3 months membership, say.)

I don't see which bug you mean. Is it the same as my bug (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204402)?

No, I meant bugzilla already has a voting system on bugs that just has to be used (and integrated into the frontpage).

Yeah that's lovely, and I agree it should be on the front page, but it's not quite what I meant: I meant breakages as defined by the users. Stuff like expat would have stayed in the chart for ages, for example. So it's not about whether there's a defined upgrade procedure or anything, but more about what glitches people are having in the update cycle.

And again. Why is there no info on Gentoo homepage?? It takes 1min to post a official announcement stating the state (and perhaps requesting new staff). And we would be happy.

I'd like to see a better integration between Gentoo homepage, Gentoo forums and Gentoo mailing lists. No, I don't know what kind of integration I mean.

Thank you for posting that link. Somehow I missed it and it explains very well the reasoning for the GWN being MIA and future plans.

not many people has time to add content for a GWM.
Why we don't use the content from the thousands of Gentoo/Linux blogs?

I am kinda upset...

Gentoo is community driven. But regarding these questions the community is ignored for 100% (at least it looks like this to me)

The same happened to the redesign of the Hompage... exactly NOTHING.

But this is worse now. This effects directly the rebutation and "the first look" of gentoo.
Instead of fixing that, what would be easy... cause you would just need to announce that the GWN will no longer be published weekly and is currently reconsidered.

And why not take up some suggestions from the community... forum activity, GLSA, new portage stuff etc..

But I see, the devs are going to make their own decisions.

And it looks to me that there is no one responsible for the HP... every DEV seems to be responsible, so we have to call in a council and it not ALL DEVS agree with a suggestion, it is discardet. SO nothing happens...

Have fun.
