Does anyone know of a nice looking IRC client that is lightweight and doesn't look horrible. Thus far I have tried Mozilla's chat prog and BitchX..Mozilla was a hog and BitchX doesn't seem to be accepting my keyboard commands (probably because I'm not using a terminal it likes). Thanks in advance. _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |

bitchx is pretty light weight. console-only, though. (can run in an x-term)

If you're stuck on GUI-only, then might check out Gaim. It has IRC features built-in and is what I use.

Well I actually want to use BitchX but the keyboard functions don't seem to be working..I have Xterm and Eterm at my disposal..should these be compatible with BitchX? _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |

Try irssi, it is IMHO better than BitchX in most aspects. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

There's a question to remove the whole filter entirely. Cast your ballot today!
That aside, you could always do what that one creative poster did and write "B!tchX". _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

There's also x-chat, if you're after a gui client. _________________ fortune: The best defense against logic is ignorance. |

lostirc.sourceforge.net
it's sweeeet, and it's heavy in development, has some small bugs atm, but nothing that keeps me (and active irc'er for very many years) from using it activly
also in the portage tree, I submited the latest version a while ago, it should be the newest version now. |

I use kSirc and/or kVirc in KDE. I prefer kSirc tho.

I Like X-Chat but i'm looking for something for KDE. X-Chat looks ugly on my system, and I can't adjsut the fonts I just get a bunch of errors... I guess you need to do something special to get fonts working in gnome apps. I've emerged gnome2 so You would think that the gtk font junk would have all been installed properly, but it hasn't...
I've tried KSIrc and KVirc both a while back, i haven't thried KVirc since kde 2. maybe i'll try it again. what i'm basicaklly looking for is something with tabbed windows, multiple server support, and alot of configuration options for things like fonts. notice/msg options for which windows they appear in. stuff like that. anyone know of any other KDE IRC Clients? |

Very nice! I like small things... If there were a few more config options and popups then it'd end up my main client... |

I needed a few things, mailed the author and it's now in (he's very much in development on it, and adds stuff constantly ) |

Yes, use irssi. There is a good guide at irssi.org and it fast and stable. There is lot of scripts for irssi too, look irssi.org. |

I agree aswell. I have been using BitchX for a very long time, but the few things I disliked in BitchX just seem perfect in irssi.
So that's why I use irssi now.
If I ever need a GUI client, I use Xchat.

from the irssi website:
Quote: | Yet another remote crash found. I'm getting tired of this. There's a few good things in irssi's code, and I'm still quite sure there's no (write) buffer overflows, but most of it is getting a big mess. I think the next thing I will do is rewrite the whole crap. Though imapd comes first - I need to do something else than irssi for a while. |
Forget about irssi. Hardcore lite console irc client users agree EPIC is the best. BitchX is based on it. BitchX is better cause EPIC has NO options, you need a script for it.
EPIC is worth a shot for the console lover in you... for a gui irc client use X-Chat, it's fine. |

The guy is just being critical of his own code, irssi is the lightest irc client I know of, and it hasn't crashed or even hiccuped on me once the enitire time I have had the joy of using it.
.: Want anti-aliased fonts, no problem just do:
Code: |
xterm -fa "Andale Mono" -fs 8 -bg black -fg white -title irssi -e irssi -c irc.openprojects.net |
