Hello.
I am disgusted by configuring gentoo console splash. I've spend many days on it but it is still ugly and buggy
My question is:
Can anyone configure the gentoo console splash (gentoo-livecd for example) for the computer witch uses 915resolution and vesafb-tng compiled as module?
My problems are:
1] splash starts to lato on boot
2] splash is static (no progress changes) on boot
3] i have no idea how to tune initramfs and services to fix it
i have also issues with splash+hibernation, but it can be the same problem
thank you for your answers |

Hello.
I have these problems when using the 855GM intel chipset with vesa framebuffer. Splash images with more than or equal to 255 colours do not load, so I have to edit all images so that they contain around 244 colours. Progress bar does not work also.
If the splash image is not getting set within 2 seconds after grub then it is too late. I can get the splash to load within 2 seconds after grub ... I just followed the guides. I'm not doing anything special.
Also, I do not get the splash screen when hibernating. I tried, albeit briefly, to edit the theme being used to contain only 244 colours, but it didn't work. However I don't really mind!
Finally, I have the splash with progress bar working with a 910GL chipset. However, before run level 3 when it seems the progress bar kicks in and when using the silent theme the output from the kernel will 'overwrite' the silent image. I am using an old version of splash on the box with the 910GL, but all latest on the box with the 855GM and still a lot of problems there. |
