ok...what the hell is it with browsers forgetting everything?
about 4 months ago i was using opera and it "lost" it's bookmarks and preferences for NO reason...it happened about 5 times in a row...stopped for a while(coincidentally enough when i went back to debian for a while)
now im on gentoo again and guess what? opera, mozilla, galeon AND firebird ALL forgot their bookmarks and settings...i tried importing a backup i made but it only overwrote that backup for some messed up reason... what the hell? this is getting `yes "BQOIWWWW#O@JU#(%&U!@)%("` annoying |

I prefer konqueror - i like the way it renders fonts and sets up my bookmarks. It does not have the most "IE" compatible renderer, and I've never gotten java support to work, so I use Mozilla-Firebird for that - I compile it myself (I don't use my box at night anyway...) (Yes, java plugin is installed correctly. It even tries to load the applet. It just never finishes.) For each task, the proper tool..
I have not had either one of them lose my bookmarks - and even if I did, I have my /home folder backed up at least weekly, so it does not matter. |

It seems that the problem is with your system, not browsers. I've been running Opera/Mozilla for quite some time now and had no problems whatsoever. |

Gah! This thread is bad luck. My 'Bookmarks Toolbar Folder' on MozFirebird just disappeared, and when I import in my backup the Bookmarks menu works fine, but the one that appears directly on the browser skin refuses to show up, even removing and re-adding it through the customize options. Hopefully a recompile will fix it(I've been meaning to update anyways, my version has some annoying bugs). |

right now im blaming (indirectly) something that has to do with gentoo, somehow...its the only distro its happened on....or maybe i could blame the purple monkey dishwasher-wielding giant miniature space hamsters who are washable under cold moose-treated water... |

This probably won't answer your question, but i know with mozilla/firebird/forkOfYourChoice, it will want to create new profiles if you open another instance of the browser. Thats the only thing i can think of, and I dont' know why Opera does that, i don't use it. _________________ Ban Reality TV!

hmm might be a ghost process that didnt get killed properly when i shut down one of the browsers and then it messed it up when i started...then again i double checked that(that was already on the "possible causes" list) |
