Motherboard: Supermicro C2SBA+
CPU: Core 2 Quad 6600
RAM: 4 x 2Gb = 8Gb
At first I tried to install using SATA DVD-ROM and it hung during LiveCD loading:

When I looked at /dev in shell I couldn't see any SATA devices, even though I was clearly booted from the SATA DVD-ROM.
I hooked up an IDE CD-ROM, but it won't even load off the CD:

So I went ahead and tried with Knoppix CD from SATA DVD-ROM, got a very similar:

Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset button to quit
|
And Knoppix from IDE CD-ROM gives the same ISOLINUX error message as above.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

What are the SATA BIOS settings for that board?

Standard default settings, SATA enabled. What exactly do you want to know? |

| Thanks for the link! It seems that it indeed was a drivers problem. The custom gentoo cd loaded just fine. (Though now I can't get my network drivers to load, but that's another issue) |
