So I installed the new baselayout, and my machine's understanding of its hostname has gone a little silly.

According to the comments in /etc/init.d/hostname, I should have just the machine name in /etc/hostname, and the dns name in /etc/resolv.conf.

So I make those changes, the machine boots up, and I see:

"This is machine.(none) blah blah blah"

Well, I say, that's not right. I check the install guide - it says to put my domain name is /etc/dnsdomainname.

So I try that - no such luck, the behavior doesn't change.

So I change it back to having the fully-qualified domain name in /etc/hostname.
Now I get:
"This is machine.domainname.(none)".

That's not right either!

What do I do?

Thanks!

I noticed the same thing. I think it's just a silly display issue because everything on the box seems to work fine (i.e. postfix, sshd, et al) and catch the real hostname.

That said, I didn't look too deep into the situation because everything was working ok and I was in a hurry. ;)
