Dear brilliant Gentoo soles,
This is the problem:
I have a server running on my really nice 100Mbit University connection. This way I can access a real quick university DC++ network from anywhere in the world. However, when I upload more than 100GB of data in 1 week I get a letter.
After 3 letters my connection will be no more so it would be nice if I could closely monitor the data that is used. At the moment I'm using vnstat for that. However it would be nice to see more accurate on process and/or user level because there are a lot of other things running on the server and some other users using it. It would also be nice if actions could be taken to make sure the 100 GB isn't reached (like stopping certain daemons), but I would be very happy if I would just have a better insight in the data usage.
So to make a long story short, is there software which could monitor the (accumulated) network data usage on a process/user level? |

simple mrtg would be sufficient for it + plus simple script added to cron which would check current level and kill mentioned application if threshold is reached.
BTW why would you want to upload more than 100GB/week? _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)

Because I can
No. Sometimes, like this week I was really surprised I almost came to the 100 GB. Sometimes it's just leaving (on purpose or not) DC++ open for too long. With my bandwidth of 100Mbit you reach 100 GB within notime.
Thanks for the help. I'll try it. Hope the configuration will work |
