Gnome recently started failing on logout. Basically, when I click on logout, or reboot, or shutdown nothing happens. Then, once I press ctrl-alt-bksp to kill the x server i get put back to the gdm login screen if i had selected logout or the computer shuts down if I had selected to shutdown. This must have started happening with the most recent version of gnome. Anyone else having this?
If I clear my session info out it goes away temporarily. But this problem soon comes back. |

Yup,
I just started getting this today.
I've been on Gnome 2.20 since it became stable and its been fine until now.
Last thing I did was look at some of the processes that were running in System -> Preferences -> Sessions and added Pidgin to autoload (which I very much doubt is related).
I'll log on using my wifes account in a little while and see if she has the same problem.
I think it must be session related. _________________ Regards

I checked my wifes account last night and the problem does not occur.
This has to be something to do with what is loaded/not loaded in my specific gnome session.
Anyone else ? _________________ Regards

I have pidgin autostarting as well. For me this problem seems to have fixed its self. I really hate when that happens though because you never know when it will all of a sudden come back. |

Hi Xamindar,
sorry for the late reply.
Seemingly my problem has gone away all by itself.
Log out/Shutdown/Switch user are all now working correctly.
Glad you are sorted too...but yes...I wish I could understand why _________________ Regards
