Hi all,
I got a problem when installing gentoo. I haven't seen this problem before.
I bought a new Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. The wired Ethernet card is broadcom 5906. I boot from livecd and want to set the network. However it doesnot work although all the information seems right.
"lspci" can actually find the card. It displays that it is broadcom 5906.
"ifconfig" with adding my IP information works.
"dmesg" cannot find any error regarding the ethernet card.
the only problem is that I can't ping to my local network. (I tried this in my XP, and the network works). The output of "route" is not correct. (even I remore and add the gateway again manually.)
H0wever, if I set the "/etc/conf.d/net" according to my IP and run the script /etc/init.d/net.eth0 (links to net.lo). Then the output of "ifconfig" is not correct. It doesnot display my IP information.
In addition,
the tg3 module is loaded, which is said to be used for the ethernet card.
I browsed some websites. They said that the tg3 module in older kernel doesnot work for that card. (not sure, because the livecd can actually recognize my card as the right one)
I tried to download the 2.6.23 kernel source and compile it.
However, the result is the same. All the information seems right, but just I cannot connect to local network (which I can do in my XP).
Anyone can give some suggestions? I am waiting online
Thanks! |
