Just for the record...
I have a i-rocks IR-2510 USB phone that I tried to get working as a skype phone with Gentoo about 12 months ago.
Initially did not have success.
Tried again yesterday and found that it now partially works. Speaker and Microphone works. Buttons do not.
Not sure whether success was due to my linux knowledge improving or better device recognition 12 months on or both
# lsusb -v stll lists it as an unknown device. I've updated the information file fairly recently.
idVendor = 0x4101

ALSA is built using ALSA_CARDS="usb-audio" in make.conf
