Hi,
I have been playing with livecd/livecd-ng a little and can see some interesting possibities. Hey I can see a covermount LiveCD for the masses to drop in the Windows pc and "try"/install openoffice other apps for them to realise the no necessaty of windows apps. Thats just one idea.
I'm know I'm not the only one out there thinking of this, I mean ppl in gentoo team are obviously working on similar things. GameCDs and PPC gnome/kde LiveCDs
A few others off the top of my head:-
Recovery/Repair/Antivirii scanning(win32/linux virii scans) -- ???
Firewall/Router(This is allready being done, but not with the flexability of a gentoo inst. Smoothwall is one i know of)
X Workstation with fluxbox, dillo(or mozilla), gabber, openoffice, xchat, others... (not sure on this i think knoppix is, but i guess its quite bulky-guess i should read up on it)
Openmosix slaves(allready being done, with some flexability on packages installed, plumpos.sourceforge.net)
I was just wondering if anyone else would like to work on ideas like this?
Cheers,
Dan.

Well just been wandering google and I found
http://www.confederatelinux.com/linux/cdbased.htm
A good list(I think) of CD bootable Linuxes allready out there.

Still wandering google and this came up:
http://files.akl.lt/baltix-knoppix/sources/
Especally knoppix-autoconfig.new
Had a quick look through and it looks like a good BASH script for a lot of AUTO hardware setup. And it's well commented.

I have been working on the livecd-ng system with noltha.
We have got in my CVS a stable version of livecd-ng and the /etc/livecd-ng tree.
The steps for at the moment installation is a manual cp of files into the correct dirs from a cvs co. When it has been packaged up in a more simple to install form ill post it.
Currently its working from a 1.4 stage file. Has been tested in VMware and on a couple of x86's. At the moment, autodetetion from the Gentoo Livecd for SCSI and eth devices.
Steps to generate a minimal livecd would be:
cd /etc/livecd-ng
livecd-ng minimal fetch
livecd-ng minimal build
livecd-ng minimal initrd
livecd-ng minimal auxcp
livecd-ng minimal cloop
livecd-ng minimal isogen
If anyone wants to hurry us up in packaging, go ahead I sometimes need a kick to get going.

I have packaged up the livecd-ng and associated files.
I am working on adding easy multi kernels onto livecds at the moment, well once this 2.6test kernel builds i can test it.
Noltha is working on getting bootsplashes working, well some ppl seem to like pritty pictures, I'll stick to my console
If you wanne try it out, please do, i'd like to know about problems that you might encounter.
