has anyone gotten japanese input to work in 2005.0 amd64? I've emerged kinput2 and canna but can't get it to work, and i've been tryin other things, and it would appear things have been removed from portage cause a lot of old instructions no longer works. if anyone has gotten this to work, i'd appreciate some help.

Try UIM or SCIM. Sudrien has instructions for how to config this here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-263174.html .

I don't suggest using kinput/canna... it's a pain in the neck to say the least compared to UIM or SCIM with anthy.

Hi,
I personally use Japanese input through im-ja. It works flawlessly with GTK applications.

Perhaps rather use the guide on the Gentoo Wiki which Sudrien links to. The Forum post hasn't been updated in about a year.
