i hope someone can help me ... i'm one small step away from a perfect gentoo installation. but when i login with kdm, there's only a white xterm appearing where i have to enter "startkde" to actually start kde. i did really everything posted on this forum, i have correct /etc/X11/Sessions/kde-3.1.2, i have correct /etc/rc.conf, i've created a ~/.xinitrc, i've re-emerged kdebase ... just everything. it works when i use xdm, but i need to use kdm. does anybody has a solution for this?? everything worked so well until now and i don't want to stick with such an annoying problem ... is there anything else i could try?
thanks a lot in advance!!!

when you launch kdm it takes you to the visual login? I take it KDE isn't on the list of options to log into? _________________ Where there's open source , there's a way. |

In the KDE Control Panel, there's a module for Display Manager configuration. I believe one of the options it lets you set is what appears in that drop-down menu (sorry, not in KDE now to confirm). Try loading that as root and see if you can add kde-3.1.2 to the list. |

i know what you mean, and kde-3.1.2 is in the list, that's the strange thing. everything appera to be set up correctly, but it still doesn't work. it works when using xdm, but not with kdm. is there a way to auto-login a user with xdm? |
