|
|
How can I best stress test my newly built mail server? Previously, the queue would regularly hold 10 to 15 items pending processing, but now it is down to 1 or two.
Is there a site that I can go to which would send an inordinate amount of mail at one time which would be a good test to see how well it would cope under pressure?

Set it up as an open relay mta and wait for the magic to happen. _________________ "It seems reality destroys our dreams..."

Thanks for the suggestion, however I'm not too impressed about being blacklisted everywhere? |

Generally speaking delivering local mail is a matter of disk I/O and not much else. If you have extensive spam filtering that will cause CPU and additional disk I/O. TCP setup and tear down with Postfix is going to be pretty lightweight so there isn't much reason to test from outside the box.
For you purposes I'd use a local script and generate mail to local accounts if you want to see raw throughput. Then start pushing the mail through any spam or content filtering to get an idea of the overhear of those services.

Ok nice one. I already have a Yahoo! account which is charged full of spam at the best of times. I then use Fetchyahoo! to download the mail to the server is batches of 700 messages at a time. The server whizzes thru this lot at an impressive speed. So I wanted to try and task it with something else. |
